Augmented Reality
The tools for augmented reality into the classroom are not far off in their availability to consumbers. Google Glass or Microsoft's Hololens are making the rounds and presenting a strong case for learning applications. Augmented reality is the layering of digital content on to the physical, real-world. This video from Microsoft highlights some of the applications.
What are the potential uses for student learning?
Interaction with holographic images. Students would be able to manipulate and interact with virtual 3-D images. I can imagine a few students who would be happier now that they don't have to take a scalpel to a cow eye. Engineering, fashio desgin, art, etc. How about the construction of structures and landscapes? This Microsoft Hololens demonstration from E3 had me trembling in my seat with excitement seeing how augmented reality will allow students to interact with their Minecraft world in a way they never have before...not that they needed anymore reason.
As an educator, I say this advancement will truly be a gamechanger in education. Consider all the students who are visual, tactile learners, they will literally have the world at their fingertips.
After digging deeper into augment reality, I see this as a step ahead of virtual reality as AR still involves the physical, real-world - to a certain extent.
